How AIPL Engineered a High-Stability Floating Performance Platform for a Mega New Year Celebration on Bhopal’s Upper Lake
“Events on water demand not just creativity but engineering reliability. AIPL delivered a modular floating stage that supported our large-scale performances safely and was installed within an extremely tight timeline.”

PROJECT CONDITIONS
Large reservoir-like lake | 1–10 m depth | ~0.5 m waves | High wind causing drag forces on stage screens.
SOLUTION
AIPL engineered a modular floating performance platform using SIFJ (Steel-Integrated Floating Jetty) technology with multi-point mooring for high stability.
RESULT
Installed in 2 days | 288 m² floating stage | 20-ton live load capacity | Successfully hosted New Year performances on water.
Platform Size
24 m × 12 m modular floating stage
Modules Used
24 modules (2 m × 6 m each)
Total Floating Area
288 m²
Design Load Capacity

Total Structural Capacity
50 tonnes
In 2019, the Government of Madhya Pradesh planned a grand New Year celebration event on the iconic Upper Lake in Bhopal.
The event, named “Jashn-e-Bhopal – Light and Sound Show”, aimed to create a unique cultural experience by hosting live performances on a floating stage in the middle of the lake.
The project was awarded to C S Direkt Events & Exhibitions Pvt Ltd, a well-known event management company that had previously collaborated with Acquafront Infrastructure Private Limited (AIPL).
This collaboration was built on trust.
Earlier, AIPL had successfully executed a landmark project for the same client — a Floating Gurudwara built to commemorate the 550th Guru Nanak Dev Ji Jayanti.
Because the first project was delivered successfully, the client once again approached AIPL to engineer the floating infrastructure required for this ambitious event.
However, this time the challenge was very different.
This was not just a floating structure.
It was a live performance stage in open water, carrying dozens of performers, lighting systems, sound equipment, and large visual screens.
Upper Lake in Bhopal is one of the largest water bodies in central India.
Its scale and wind exposure create conditions closer to a small reservoir rather than a calm pond.
Waterbody Type
Large inland lake
Water Depth Range
1 – 10 meters
Wave Conditions
Wave height up to 0.5 meters
Wind Effects
High wind speeds generated significant drag forces, especially because the stage included large visual screens and lighting systems.
This created a unique engineering problem.
The floating platform had to support safely:
The structure had to remain stable even when performers were dancing dynamically.
The project also had strict logistical constraints:
These requirements meant the floating system had to be engineered with high structural stability and reliable anchoring.

To address these challenges, AIPL engineered a modular floating platform using its SIFJ (Steel-Integrated Floating Jetty) system.
The solution combined structural rigidity with modular flexibility to support event infrastructure safely.
The design followed a modular structural approach:
The floating platform system was engineered according to:
Engineering calculations accounted for:
The platform was designed to remain stable under maximum load conditions while maintaining adequate freeboard.
A multi-point mooring system was implemented to keep the platform stationary despite strong winds and drag forces created by large stage screens.
Since the project was a short-term event installation, corrosion protection was achieved using marine-grade protective paint coatings.
The final executed system included a modular floating stage designed for performance applications.

Access to the floating stage was provided through boats, allowing performers and technical crew to reach the platform safely.
AIPL executed the project under strict time constraints and complex logistics.

Materials Used
The modular units were transported by road trailers to the installation site in Bhopal.
The deployment process included:
After AIPL installed the floating platform, the event production team built the stage set, lighting, and decorative structures on top of the floating deck.
During the event, AIPL engineers remained present on-site to ensure smooth operation and provide technical support if required.
The floating stage successfully hosted the Jashn-e-Bhopal New Year Celebration, featuring live music, dance performances, and a large light-and-sound experience.
The event became a major attraction.
For many visitors and tourists, it was the first time witnessing a live cultural performance staged on water in Bhopal.
The project received positive response from both the public and the organizing authorities.
After successful completion of the celebration:
Because the system was modular, dismantling was efficient and the floating infrastructure could be reused for future projects.
SIFJ is AIPL’s modular floating infrastructure technology designed for medium to heavy load floating applications in inland water bodies.
SIFJ systems are designed based on project requirements and relevant engineering standards including:

Testing and validation may involve IRS, IIT, CIPET, and NABL-approved laboratories, depending on project requirements.
Floating event docks require careful structural engineering to ensure safety during dynamic performances.
Modular floating platforms enable rapid installation and dismantling, making them ideal for temporary events.
Large stage screens can create significant wind drag, requiring multi-point anchoring systems.
SIFJ modular docks provide cost-effective solutions for medium-load floating applications in lakes and reservoirs.
