Yet another modern application of the very versatile SIFJ technology came to light while looking for viable docking of seaplanes. AIPL is currently supporting SpiceJet Technic (P) Ltd. for building maintenance specific docks for the Ahmedabad-Kevadia seaplane. What is so special about the requirements of docking the Twin Otter 300 seaplane? It requires two docks, one wet dock of a U-shaped layout for berthing & Engine Ground Running (EGR) and one dry dock to pull up the seaplane onto a concrete surface, since it does not have wheels for maintenance purpose which is challenging for Indian govt . The wet dock has seen completion and the dry dock is in progress. A suitable anchoring plan along with stability arrangement was developed by AIPL keeping in mind the power and weight of the plane(3-4 tonne when empty) and the basic wind speed and water profile specific to the standards of the location : Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad.
